Podcasting and YouTube

Now that I've listened to Podcasts and seen Youtube videoes, how do I technically go about adding them to my library's website? I think it would be great to YouTube or Podcast library programs, especially the book discussion group. Does anybody know how to do this? Thank you.

Hi Joanne, I think putting video and audio files should not be technically difficult. You need to discuss the details with your web creator - most html tools allow to just post the file on the page. Depending on the volume, you may also want to add space to your server. My biggest issues were copyright and security concerns: many of our materials are protected, sensitive or should be for members only. But if you can share your files with the rest of the world and are not worried about heavy online traffic they might cause, the process, I imagine, should be hassle-free.

Actually, I'm thinking of the very basics of podcasting and using You Tube. What type of equipment do I need for a podcast or for a You Tube video?

There are some excellent resources on the web on how to create a podcast or digital video. The short answer is: you need to have a computer, some kind of microphone, some kind of video camera, and the software to record the media.

If you search for "how to create a podcast" or "how to create a video" using Google, you'll get a variety of sources of decent information.

Here's a couple to get you started: How to Make a Podcast from Mahalo

How To Make a YouTube Video from eHow

Good luck!
